You have a line.
It started the day you were born. You will cross this line when you least expect it.
Last month’s newsletter we talked about Your Line of Insurability. The last time to buy life insurance.
This month we are talking about the last time you can make your Will.
No one has a lease on life and no one knows when they will no longer have the “Legal Capacity” to make their last wishes legal.
You have a “Line of Legal Capacity”. It extends forward from your current age and capacity today. One day you can legally make a Will, the next you can lose that legal capacity and you cannot. It’s simple and stark. It’s a line you cross without notice and fanfare but it makes a huge difference in your planning. Once you cross it you can no longer change things.
This also includes your Power of Attorney for Personal Care and Property.
Next week has an accident, lose your ability to sign your name and have the mortgage come due – see how that works out.
The Bottom Line … Who are we Kidding?
